Your teeth aren’t going yellow. They’re going thin, and the colour underneath is showing through.

GUIDE · ENAMEL WEAR

Your teeth aren’t going yellow. They’re going thin, and the colour underneath is showing through.

In England, 71.2% of adults have some level of erosive tooth wear, and most of them are buying whitening products for it. But bleaching just makes it worse. As your enamel gets thinner, the yellow dentin layer underneath starts to show. The cause is daily acid erosion and wear that’s happening faster than it should.

Five signs your enamel is wearing down, not just being stained

You probably noticed it in a mirror at night. The edges of your front teeth look glassy, almost see-through against a dark background. The teeth themselves look yellower than they did five years ago.

So you bought a whitening toothpaste. Then you tried bleaching strips. Nothing changed, so you assumed you hadn’t been using them long enough.

You haven’t been brushing wrong. Enamel erosion is caused by how long acid is covering your teeth, which is probably a lot. Because acid isn’t just produced by your body to digest food – it’s also in in your coffee, your fizzy water, your wine and most of what’s in your fridge.

Your biting edges are flattening, and your teeth look shorter.

Old fillings sit proud of the tooth around them.

Surfaces feel smooth and shiny where they used to feel matte.

WHY IT HAPPENS

Every acidic drink takes mineral off your teeth

Your enamel is about 97% mineral, and that mineral is hydroxyapatite. Acid dissolves it.

So every time you drink something acidic (think anything with bubbles), a little mineral comes off your teeth. Your saliva works hard to put it back afterwards, but compared to all the acid we take in, it’s never enough.

Coffee is acidic. So are orange juice, wine, sparkling water, fruit, and vinegar dressings.

Sugar-free doesn’t help, because the acid is still there. A diet cola can be just as acidic as the full-sugar one.

And it’s how often you drink them that counts, not just how much. Sipping a drink over an hour is even worse than chugging it in one go.

Your saliva can only put back a small amount, but on most days it can’t keep up, so your teeth end the day with less mineral than they started with.

Why whitening and harder brushing make it worse

You’ve probably tried two or three of these already.

✕ Whitening toothpaste

It polishes, dyes or bleaches stains off the outside of the tooth. The yellow you’re seeing isn’t always on the outside. It could be the layer underneath, showing through enamel that’s got thinner, and attacking thin enamel makes it thinner still.

✕ Brushing harder, and more often

Hard brushing wears the teeth down faster than any toothpaste does. And if you brush straight after something acidic, you’re scrubbing a surface the acid has already softened.

✕ Charcoal and bicarbonate pastes

They work by scrubbing. You uncover a brighter layer by taking off more of the surface you’re trying to keep.

None of them restores the mineral back onto your tooth surface. That’s the one way to keep your enamel healthy in the long term.

WHERE IT STARTS

Eēsē Remineralising Toothpaste puts the mineral back

Eēsē Remineralising Toothpaste is a complete daily toothpaste for enamel care. It contains hydroxyapatite, the mineral your enamel is made of, supported by xylitol, essential oils, and gentle foaming without SLS.

For best results, use Remineralising Toothpaste alongside our Balancing Toothpaste. Balancing combines hydroxyapatite with paraprobiotics for microbiome-friendly care while you sleep.

Use Remineralising in the morning for enamel care before the day’s food and drink, and Balancing at night before you sleep.

✓ It puts the mineral back. Hydroxyapatite is the mineral your teeth are made of, and it’s in this toothpaste. Brush with it and it settles onto the surface, restoring the surfaces the acid has stripped.

✓ It reduces acid at the source. Xylitol starves the bacteria in your mouth that usually convert sugars into acid. When they take in xylitol instead, nothing comes out.

✓ It cleans without stripping. It’s free of SLS, the detergent in most toothpaste that's been linked to gum irritation and mouth ulcers. This toothpaste foams while going gentle on the mouth and gums.

Mineral care morning and night. Paraprobiotics in the evening.

Both toothpastes support your enamel with hydroxyapatite. The evening Balancing Toothpaste also contains paraprobiotics for microbiome-friendly care while you sleep.

THE HABIT

Put mineral back every morning and every night

You take mineral off your teeth every day, because you bring in acid by eating and drinking multiple times a day. That doesn’t stop.

So putting mineral back has to happen every day too. Keep both tubes by the sink: Remineralising for your morning brush, Balancing for your evening brush.

Same two minutes you already spend. Different result at the end of them.

THE EVIDENCE

Two and a half times better odds of no new decay

2.5×

more likely to finish with no new decay

That’s what came out of multiple clinical trials on hydroxyapatite toothpaste. People brushing with it were 2.5 times more likely to prevent decay than people using a toothpaste without active ingredients.

Hydroxyapatite is what your enamel is already made of. That’s why it remineralises your teeth’s surface and prevents decay.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How long before any of this shows

1 · The first fortnight

Mineral goes back on twice a day and stays there, because you’re spitting instead of rinsing it off.

✓ You’ve moved acidic drinks to mealtimes instead of sipping through the day.

✓ You’re waiting half an hour after meals before you brush.

2 · Weeks four to eight

This is when a twinge to cold shows up.

✓ Cold water at the sink.

✓ The first bite of something cold.

3 · From then on

Your teeth lose and regain mineral every day. Keep putting it back and the balance stays on your side.

Questions people ask

What actually is hydroxyapatite?

It’s the mineral your teeth are made of. Your enamel is about 97% hydroxyapatite, so brushing with it puts back what the acid takes off.

Will it whiten my teeth?

This toothpaste gently polishes surface stains, so your teeth look brighter. It also works on the reason they dulled in the first place, which no whitening paste does.

Why is there no fluoride in it?

Because hydroxyapatite does the job a different way. Fluoride reacts with the mineral in your saliva. Hydroxyapatite is the mineral itself, so it puts material back instead of changing it.

Can children use it?

Yes. There’s no fluoride in it to worry about swallowing.

Which toothpaste do I use morning and night?

Use Remineralising Toothpaste in the morning and Balancing Toothpaste at night. Both contain hydroxyapatite. Balancing also contains paraprobiotics for microbiome-friendly care. Brush for two minutes each time, then spit without rinsing.

Does it foam?

Does it sting? It foams and it tastes of mint. There’s no synthetic menthol or SLS in it, which is what makes most toothpaste sting and leaves your mouth feeling stripped.

Do I have to give up coffee?

No. Have it with a meal rather than sipping it over an hour, and wait half an hour before you brush. It’s how often the acid arrives that matters.
