ORAL CARE · HYDROXYAPATITE
Hydroxyapatite puts mineral back in your teeth. It doesn’t fix the root cause.
Hydroxyapatite is the mineral your teeth are made of, and brushing with it puts some of that mineral back. That’s a good enough reason to switch to it.
But your teeth lose mineral to acid that comes directly from food and is also produced by bacteria living on your teeth, all day long. A toothpaste that only puts mineral back is dealing with half the problem.
Five signs the acid is still winning
You brush twice a day, maybe with a hydroxyapatite toothpaste already. If you recognise any of these, acid is still wearing down the enamel on your teeth.
Your teeth feel furry when you wake up.
There’s a whitish film on your tongue or along your gum line.
Sweet things give you a twinge.
You’ve spotted chalky white patches on a tooth.
Your breath goes stale again a few hours after brushing.
WHY IT HAPPENS
The bacteria on your teeth turn your food into acid
A thin film of bacteria grows on your teeth all the time. It starts coming back within hours of brushing, however well you brush.
Those bacteria feed on what you eat. Like most of us, they love sugar and carbs: bread, pasta, crisps and fruit.
As they feed, they make acid, and because they’re sitting right on your teeth, that acid goes straight onto your enamel.
Every meal and snack starts another round. The film, or plaque, formed by the bacteria holds the acid against your teeth and stops your saliva washing it away, so it stays there longer.
That acid dissolves the mineral your teeth are made of. Hydroxyapatite puts some of it back. But the bacteria are still there, still feeding and still making acid, all day, every day.
Food reaches the plaque
The bacteria on your teeth feed on sugar.
Bacteria make acid
The acid sits against the enamel.
Enamel loses mineral
Hydroxyapatite puts mineral back on the surface.
And the usual answer makes it worse. Most toothpastes and mouthwashes are built to kill bacteria, and they don’t pick and choose. Researchers gave people a strong antiseptic mouthwash for a week.
The range of bacteria in their mouths dropped, and the bacteria that thrive in acid took over more of the space. Their saliva also got worse at neutralising acid.
Putting mineral back is one job. Your toothpaste needs to do two more: cut back the acid where it’s made, and look after the bacteria your mouth needs instead of wiping them out.
Why a hydroxyapatite-only toothpaste, or a stronger mouthwash, won’t stop it
✕ A toothpaste with only hydroxyapatite working in it
It puts mineral back, and that’s useful. It does nothing to the bacteria making the acid, so the same acid comes back after your next meal and takes the mineral out again.
✕ An antiseptic mouthwash
It kills 99.9% of bacteria and your mouth tastes clean for an hour. It also clears space for the bacteria that thrive in acid, and it leaves your saliva worse at neutralising it.
✕ Brushing harder
Brushing breaks up the film, and it’s the most important thing you do. Brushing harder doesn’t make the film come back any slower, and it wears down your gum line.
✕ Cutting out sugar
Less sugar means less food for the bacteria. But bread, pasta and fruit feed them too, and you don’t see a lot of people giving those up.
None of them deals with the mineral and the bacteria at the same time. That’s the job your toothpaste has to do.
WHERE IT STARTS
Eēsē Balancing Toothpaste combines hydroxyapatite, xylitol and paraprobiotics
Eēsē Balancing Toothpaste is a complete daily toothpaste for gum and breath care. It combines hydroxyapatite and xylitol with paraprobiotics in an SLS-free formula.
For best results, use Balancing Toothpaste alongside our Remineralising Toothpaste. Remineralising contains hydroxyapatite for enamel care before the day’s food and drink.
Use Remineralising in the morning and Balancing at night for microbiome-friendly care while you sleep.
✓ Eēsē Remineralising Toothpaste puts the mineral back. Hydroxyapatite is the mineral your teeth are made of. It is in both toothpastes, so mineral goes back on morning and night.
✓ Xylitol works alongside the mineral in both toothpastes. It is a natural sweetener the acid-making bacteria can’t use. They take it in and get no energy from it, so they make less acid.
✓ Balancing looks after the bacteria your mouth needs at night. Its Paraprobiotic Complex supports your oral microbiome. It is made from heat-treated Lactobacillus, so it is stable on the shelf.

You eat every day, so this has to be the toothpaste you use every day
The bacteria are back within hours of brushing, and they start making acid again the next time you eat. That doesn’t stop.
Use Remineralising every morning and Balancing every night. It’s the same two minutes you already spend, with hydroxyapatite and xylitol in both brushes and paraprobiotics in the evening.

People brushing with hydroxyapatite were 2.5 times more likely to prevent new decay
more likely to prevent new decay, against a placebo toothpaste
That’s from the clinical trials on hydroxyapatite toothpaste, reviewed together. The Day & Night Routine puts hydroxyapatite in both brushes. Balancing adds paraprobiotics at night.

Questions people ask
Is it a probiotic?
No. The evening Balancing Toothpaste contains paraprobiotics: heat-treated Lactobacillus, with nothing alive in the tube.
Do I have to cut out sugar?
No (although it might not be the worst idea). Xylitol means the bacteria get less acid out of what you eat, and hydroxyapatite puts back mineral the acid takes.
You’ll still do better having sweet things with meals rather than picking at them all day.
Does it taste like normal toothpaste?
Yes. It foams properly and tastes of peppermint with a little lemon. Once you switch, you won’t want to go back.
Why is there no fluoride in it?
Because hydroxyapatite puts back the mineral itself at no risk. Fluoride comes with ingestion warnings, especially for children whose teeth are still developing.
Is it vegan?
Yes. There’s nothing animal-derived in it, and it has never been tested on animals. Every ingredient is listed on the tube.
Can children use it?
Yes. There’s no fluoride in it to worry about swallowing.
